Although the Lakers failed to acquire Gafford before last year's trade deadline, he remains an attractive option for the team. Gafford's signing with the Dallas Mavericks last summer has made him a more affordable starting-level center, and his ability to run the floor well in transition and provide energy on both ends of the court makes him an ideal fit for the Lakers. With Deandre Ayton's struggles this season, Gafford could be a viable replacement for the Lakers' frontcourt. NBA analyst Jake Weinbach noted that Gafford is another name to monitor on the trade market as the Mavericks prioritize their long-term future. Gafford averaged 9.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks with the Mavericks this season, shooting 65.5% from the field in 55 contests. The Lakers are in the market for a starting-caliber center who won't break the bank, and Gafford makes sense for the team. Poaching Gafford from Dallas this summer is too logical a move not to occur.
